Hello from Darren Headrick

Mick Gillispie, Gary Hughes, and Darren Headrick in 2009.

Headrick with 2009 Smokies Manager Ryne Sandberg

Greetings to all the great Smokies fans and listeners! Man, it is great to be back on the airwaves tonight with Mick! I have really missed my time with the team. Though my new responsibilities have brought me to Wilson, NC, I continue to follow the Smokies very closely. What a start to the season! Best record (12-2) in all of baseball!

For those wondering what I have been up to since the last time I was on the Smokies Radio Network, I have accepted a job as the Director of Media Relations and Broadcasting with the Wilson Tobs. Wilson is a summer collegiate team in the Coastal Plains League. Our season gets underway on May 26th with a road game against the Edenton Steamers. I am honored to be a part of the Golden Leaf Radio Network. Wilson has been a breeding ground for successful broadcasters, including J.P. Shadrick of the Jacksonville Suns and our very own Mick Gillispie.

Though my time on the air tonight will be short, I look forward to returning to the broadcast team sometime in August after my duties with the Tobs are complete. Thanks for listening and go Smokies!

-Darren Headrick

-Note: The finale of the Smokies vs. Mudcats game tonight is internet only. You can listen to the game here or on smokiesbaseball.com. Mick Gillispie will handle the play-by-play along with Darren Headrick.
