KODAK, Tenn. – The Chattanooga Lookouts (11-6, 43-42) plated three runs in the ninth inning to defeat the Tennessee Smokies 6-3 in front of 3,892 at Smokies Park on Saturday night.  The loss drops the Smokies to 7-10 for the second half, 42-45 overall.

The Smokies took the lead early off Chattanooga starter Allen Webster, scoring two times in the second inning.  Juan Apodaca singled to start the inning and Nate Samson singled to right field.  Both runners advanced one base on a fielding error on Lookouts right fielder Blake Smith.  Apodaca would score on a groundout by Elliot Soto and two batters later Logan Watkins singled to score Samson and give Tennessee a 2-0 lead.

Tennessee starter Dae-Eun Rhee was unable to hold the lead, as Chattanooga answered with two runs in the third inning.  With the bases loaded Rhee hit Kyle Russell to bring a run home and Jake Lemmerman tied the game at two by hitting into an RBI force out.

Apodaca collected his third hit of the night with a double to lead off the sixth inning.  Samson bunted him over to third, and Nelson Perez followed with a pitch-hit walk.  Watkins scored Apodaca with a ground-rule double to take a 3-2 lead.

Rhee battled through his six innings on the mound, allowing two runs on five hits, walking four and striking out four.

The Lookouts would tie the game at three off reliever Kevin Rhoderick in the seventh.  Rafael Yona singled and would score one batter later on a Nick Buss double.

With the game knotted at three in the ninth, the Smokies turned to Casey Harman (0-2), who surrendered four consecutive hits and three runs to score to give the Lookouts what they needed to secure the victory.

Webster survived a nine-hit attack to also take a no-decision, as he threw six innings, giving up three runs (two earned) and fanned five.  Reliever Red Patterson (5-1) took the win going two scoreless innings in relief and was followed by Logan Bawcom who picked up his 11th save of the season.

The Smokies and Lookouts will continue their three-game set on Sunday at 5:00 p.m. at Smokies Park.  Tennessee will send RHP Trey McNutt (4-7, 4.67) to the mound and Chattanooga will counter with RHP Zach Lee (0-0, 7.00).  For tickets and more information, visit or call (865) 286-2300.
