Another 2013 Smokies infielder gained recognition as MLB.com continues to count down their top ten prospects at each position, with infielder Arismendy Alcantara rated the fourth-best prospect at second base. The entire list can be viewed by clicking here.

Alcantara spent all of last year with the Smokies, recording a .271 batting average (134-494), adding 15 homers and 69 RBI in his 133 contests. The 22-year-old, who began the year at shortstop and subsequently moved to second after Javier Baez was promoted from High-A Dayton, ranked second on the club with his 134 hits and 69 RBI, in addition to third in total bases (223).

The Dominican Republic native also participated in the All-Star Futures Game last season at Citi Field in New York as part of MLB All-Star Weekend, and launched a solo homer off Boston Red Sox RHP prospect Anthony Ranaudo (video below).

Alacantara becomes the second 2013 Smokie to be honored by MLB.com in their position prospect rankings after Baez was ranked as the second-best shortstop prospect in the game last week.

Signed by the Chicago Cubs as a non-drafted free agent on November 3, 2008 following his 17th birthday, Alcantara has been tabbed by Baseball America as the No. 7 prospect in the Chicago Cubs organization prior to this upcoming season.

MLB.com will reveal the 2014 edition of the top 100 prospects on Thursday, January 23 at 10 p.m. ET on MLB Network. Leading up to that countdown, MLB.com is revealing the top ten prospects at their respective positions each weekday leading up to January 23.

The site will rank the top ten third base prospects in the game on Tuesday, with the No. 2 prospect in the Chicago Cubs system according to Baseball America, and possible 2014 Tennessee Smokie, Kris Bryant expected to be listed.
