The Smokies barely missed out on winning a First-Half Championship in the North Division of the Southern League to the Birmingham Barons, but in the Second-Half it was a different story. Led by newcomer and top Chicago Cubs prospect Javier Baez, the Smokies offense took off as the Smokies cruised to a Second-Half Championship on August 29th, 2013. Their Southern League title dreams were dashed in a tense 5-game North Division Championship Series with the eventual Southern League Champions Birmingham Barons.
