The shoe was on the other foot this time as the Smokies pitching staff blanked Jacksonville’s offense in their 4-0 victory last night. Now with the series even at one, Tennessee has a chance to take a lead in this five-game set as first pitch is set for 3:00 pm this afternoon at Bragan Field.

The Smokies bats were not able to just get some offense from batter’s 1-8, but also from their pitcher as starter Eduardo Figueroa broke a scoreless tie with a home run in the third inning. That proved to be game winner, but Tennessee was able to get three more runs with a two run single from Jeudy Valdez and an RBI pinch hit single from Rubi Silva. Tennessee’s bullpen helped shut down the Suns after Figueroa pitched only 3.1 innings as P.J. Francescon, Zach Cates, and Armando Rivero pitched 5.2 scoreless innings to seal the win.

The Smokies are likely to start RHP Dae-Eun Rhee (2-3, 3.90) in this afternoon’s contest. Rhee struggled in his last start against Birmingham on June 2 going six innings while allowing six earned runs on nine hits and striking out three.

The Suns are expected to counter with RHP Jay Rogers (1-1, 6.39), who is also coming off an appearance where he did not perform well pitching 2.2 innings and allowing two runs on three hits.

Fans can listen to the broadcast on the Smokies Baseball Network, with the “Voice of the Smokies” Mick Gillispie. Gillispie is assisted by Greg Young, Keith Brake, Meagan Wood, Sean Sullivan, Boomer Dangel, Andrew Clare and James Rowe. The Pilot/Oscar Meyer Pre-game Show will begin at 2:45 p.m. ET.
