Arismendy Alcantara Promoted To Chicago

Arismendy

Former Smokies Infielder Arismendy Alcantara hasn’t been a big name thrown around by fans of the Cubs and baseball critics as the attention has mostly been on Javier Baez, Albert Almora, Jorge Soler, Kris Bryant, and recently acquired Addison Russell, but Alcantara has quietly put up big numbers and is finally creating buzz in Chicago. The ‘under appreciated’ player is getting his chance as the Cubs have called him up to the majors while Darwin Barney is taking some time away from the team.

Ranked as the number seven prospect according to Baseball America, Alcantara could arguably be the best well rounded player in the Cubs organization as he has incredible bat speed, power, base path speed, gold glove caliber defense and can play multiple positions. This year in Triple-A Iowa, he has been raking as he is hitting .310 with 10 home runs, 41 RBIs, 24 doubles, and 11 triples along with 21 stolen bases. He was just recently named to the Pacific Coast League All-Star team. Alcantara was named a North Division All-Star last season and was named the best second baseman in the Southern League as he hit .271 with 15 home runs, 69 RBIs, 36 doubles, four triples, and 31 RBIs.
