The owner of the Chicago Cubs, Tom Ricketts, and board member, Laura Ricketts, are visiting Smokies Park today. They will tour the facilities this afternoon and take in the game tonight against Mississippi. Overall, this is the 3rd trip to Smokies Park by Ricketts as he was in attendance for a regular season game in addition to a playoff game last season. During last season’s regular season visit, we were fortunate to have him on the broadcast for an inning. Tonight he will be joining Mick on the broadcast during the 5th inning. That inning, along with the one from 2010, is going to be archived on our multimedia page for future listening.
The Smokies come into tonight’s game with a Southern League best 29-16 record. Overall, the Smokies have won 7 consecutive games. Last night, the Smokies finished off a five game sweep of the Mobile Baybears, the first time they had been swept in the regular season since 2008. Due to yesterday’s doubleheader sweep to the hands of Mississippi, Jackson now trails Tennessee by 3 games in the North Division. Getting the start for Tennessee is Alberto Cabrera(5-2, 5-62). Last time out Cabrera earned the win against Mobile despite giving up four runs and walking four in six innings.
