In late May of the 2013 season, the southwest state of Oklahoma was ravaged by tornadoes that caused many to perish and lots homeless. Tennessee Smokies outfielder Ty Wright decided to raise funds as Oklahoma was a place that Wright once attended college (Oklahoma State) and described it as his second home. The Smokies came into support his cause as they held auctions and other events to raise money. Former Smokies and current major league players Darwin Barney, Andrew Cashner, and Tyler Colvin all donated items to the auction and the parent club of the Smokies, the Chicago Cubs, also donated. Overall, $16,800 were donated to American Red Cross in their efforts in Oklahoma.
