It’s no secret that the Smokies have been bit by the injury bug quite severely over the last few weeks. The most recent injury was to Jorge Soler who suffered a lower body injury just a few days ago while running down a fly ball at Trustmark Park in Mississippi.
Soler has missed the last two games, and is currently back in Chicago undergoing tests. According to Manager Buddy Bailey, Soler should return to his team when the Smokies return to Smokies Park later this week. Through seven games this season, Soler is 8-for-24 with seven doubles and a 1.032 OPS.
Bailey sat down with the voice of the Smokies, Mick Gillispie, on Sunday to talk about the recent injuries suffered by his players and when they might return. His updates included a timetable for right-hander C.J. Edwards and the most recent information regarding reliever Hunter Cervenka.
Bailey also spoke quite extensively about the overall success of the Tennessee offense and the recent poor play from the defense. Additionally, in the interview above, Bailey sheds some light on the upcoming return of infielder Elliot Soto.
