At the height of his powers, Hall of Fame outfielder Andre Dawson was a formidable slugger and run producer. He produced more than 100 RBIs in three of his six seasons with the Chicago Cubs, including 137 during his National League MVP campaign in 1987.
On May 22nd, 1990, the Cincinnati Reds had little interest in facing Dawson deep in the extra innings of their game with the Cubs. It didn’t work. Mick Gillispie told the story in Thursday’s game between the Smokies and the Mobile BayBears.
