On June 1, 1925, Lou Gehrig appeared as a pinch hitter for the New York Yankees. The next day, he started at first base, and appeared in every game for the next thirteen years and more.
Mick Gillispie told the story of the start of Gehrig’s streak on June 1, and the variety of injuries the Iron Horse endured to keep that streak going, during Tennessee’s game with the Birmingham Barons on Sunday.
