This Date in Baseball History – June 12

Aaron Brothers It’s rare for a pair of brothers to play on the same team in the Major Leagues, let alone for them both to hit home runs on the same day. Hall of Famers Paul and Lloyd Waner did three times across their careers, and on June 12, 1962, the Aaron brothers, Hank and Tommie (pictured), accomplished the feat – the first of three times that season the two would go yard in the same game. Other pairings to achieve the feat include two combinations of Alou brothers – Felipe and Matty in 1961, then Matty and Jesús in 1965 – and Tony and Billy Conigliaro, who did it twice in 1970. Mick Gillispie told the story of the Aarons’ big day during Thursday’s game between the Smokies and the Mississippi Braves.
