Kris Bryant is still doing what he does best now for Triple-A Iowa, tearing up pitchers with his bat. Despite his average being low, .222 (4-18), Bryant still has impressed in the five games that he has played as he has hit four home runs while driving in six, including a multi-home run game on June 22 against Albuquerque.
He struggled in his first 12 at bats only getting one hit (a home run in his Triple-A debut), but has gone 3-for-6 in his last two games hitting three home runs with four RBIs and walking twice. He continues to improve and is now only one stop away from going to the Majors where the Cubs hope he flourishes. If he can hit well in Triple-A Iowa, Bryant could find himself in the majors for the September call-ups.
He hit .355 with 22 home runs and 58 RBIs when he was with the Smokies this season as he was named Cubs Player of the Month in June, named Southern League Hitter of the Week three times and was named to the North Division All-Star Team in this year’s Southern League All-Star Game starting at third base. He was promoted to Iowa on June 19. Bryant was also named, along with former Smokies shortstop Javier Baez, to the 2014 SiruisXM All-Star Future’s game in Minneapolis at Target Field on July 13.
