Before Leo “The Lip” Durocher (pictured, center) ever managed the Chicago Cubs, he won a World Series in 1954 at the helm of the San Francisco Giants. That notion would have come as a shock to many – and likely Durocher himself – when his comments on the Giants to the press were printed on July 7, 1946, giving America one of its best-known adages.
Mick Gillispie told the story of Durocher’s famous line during the sixth inning of Tennessee’s game with the Birmingham Barons on Monday.
