On August 3rd, 1948, at the ripe age of 41, Satchel Paige’s long years of barnstorming and “all-star” teams finally paid dividends, when he made his first Major League start with the Cleveland Indians.
Mick Gillispie told the story of Paige’s prime – and his success in the Majors at the end of his career – during the sixth inning of Tennessee’s game with the Pensacola Blue Wahoos on Sunday.
