It was announced on Monday afternoon that 2014 Smokies right-hander C.J. Edwards has been selected to play in the Arizona Fall League’s Fall Stars Game, which will take place this Saturday, November 1 at 8:00 p.m. ET on MLB Network.
The game is usually reserved for the top prospects playing in the Arizona Fall League, with Edwards joining the East Division squad. Through three starts with the Mesa Solar Sox, the South Carolina native owns a 1-0 record and 2.57 ERA (2 ER in 7.0 IP), yielding five hits and five walks while striking out six.
Edwards spent the beginning and end of his 2014 regular season campaign with the Smokies, bookending a shoulder injury that left him out for the majority of the season. Over his ten starts with Tennessee, the 22-year-old compiled a 1-2 clip and 2.44 ERA (13 ER in 48.0 IP), adding 21 walks and 46 strikeouts.
After rehabbing his injury in Mesa, Arizona with the Mesa Cubs, Edwards spoke with Smokies broadcaster Mick Gillispie about returning to the Smokies and what his expectations were for the remainder of the 2014 season.
