2014 Smokies right-hander C.J. Edwards enjoyed a solid inning on the mound during the Arizona Fall League’s Fall Stars Game on Saturday evening. The 22-year-old yielded a lone hit and did not walk a batter while striking out two during the third frame for the AFL East squad (view box score here).
After Atlanta Braves prospect Daniel Castro led off the inning with a single to left, Edwards proceeded to strike out the Tampa Bay Rays’ Patrick Leonard on three pitches before getting top Cleveland Indians prospect Francisco Lindor out on strikes looking. With Castro still on first base with two out, then induced a fly out of Milwaukee Brewers farmhand Tyrone Taylor to end the inning. Edwards was very efficient on the mound, totaling 13 pitches, ten of which were strikes.
The righty has enjoyed a solid fall league campaign, posting a 1-0 record and 1.80 ERA (2 ER in 10.0 IP), yielding five hits and five walks while striking out seven. Opposing hitters have also managed just a .147 batting average against.
