May 22 – Smokies Walk Off With 6-5 Win
Smokies left fielder Charlie Cutler delivered a clutch walk-off RBI single in the bottom of the ninth and drove in three runs, while third baseman Kris Bryant reached base five times and recorded three RBi in Tennessee’s 6-5 walk-off victory over the Mobile BayBears on Thursday afternoon in front of a crowd of 4,544 at Smokies Stadium.


May 23 – Martin’s Four Hits Down Smokies 7-1
BayBears right fielder Dustin Martin recorded four hits, while Smokies third baseman Kris Bryant drove in his 41st run of the season and extended his hitting streak to nine with a run-scoring double in Mobile’s 7-1 victory over Tennessee in front of 5,113 fans on Friday evening at Smokies Stadium.


May 31 – 6,819 Witness Barons Outduel Smokies 2-1
Tennessee’s Joel Pineiro and Birmingham’s Nick McCully each fired seven strong frames in their starts, while the Barons took advantage of a wild pitch in the ninth inning to defeat the Smokies 2-1 in front of a season-high 6,819 fans on Saturday evening at Smokies Stadium.


June 1 – Smokies Walk Off For 2nd Straight Night 1-0
With the bases loaded and no outs in the bottom of the ninth, Smokies first baseman Dustin Geiger lined the game-winning single to center following starting pitcher C.J. Edwards’ six shutout innings in Tennessee’s 1-0 walk-off shutout victory over the Huntsville Stars on Thursday evening at Smokies Stadium.


June 2 – Birmingham Topples Tennessee 10-5
Barons shortstop Jaime Pedroza collected three hits in addition to driving in three runs and catcher Kevan Smith smashed his fourth homer of the year, while Smokies third baseman Kris Bryant recorded his team-leading 20th multi-hit game of the year as Birmingham topped Tennessee 10-5 on Monday evening at Smokies Stadium.


June 4 – Smokies’ Gardner Mows Down Barons 4-1
Smokies starting pitcher Joe Gardner sent down 18 of the first 19 batters faced and first baseman Dustin Geiger crushed his seventh home run of the year to lead Tennessee to a 4-1 series finale win over the Birmingham Barons on Wednesday afternoon at Smokies Stadium.


June 11 – Smokies Slide Past M-Braves 3-2
Smokies left fielder Anthony Giansanti snuck home on an eighth-inning wild pitch to score the winning run, while third baseman and Southern League Triple Crown leader Kris Bryant recorded a game-high two hits as Tennessee topped the Mississippi Braves 3-2 in a series opening victory on Wednesday evening at Smokies Stadium.


June 13 – Smokies Blast Past M-Braves 8-2
Smokies first baseman Dustin Geiger drove in three runs and collected two hits, including a two-run homer, while relievers Jeff Lorick, Lendy Castillo and Armando Rivero combined for the final four shutout innings as Tennessee rallied past the Mississippi Braves 8-2 on Friday night at Smokies Stadium.


June 19 – Smokies Walk Off Again With 4-3 Win
Smokies third baseman Christian Villanueva slapped a walk-off single to center in the bottom of the ninth, while right fielder Rubi Silva added two-run homer as part of a three-hit night in Tennessee’s 4-3 walk-off victory over the Chattanooga Lookouts in their second half opener on Thursday evening at Smokies Stadium.


June 20 – Tennessee Walks Off With 5-4 Win Friday
Tennessee outfielders Rubi Silva and Jonathan Mota slammed back-to-back home runs in the fourth, while catcher Charlie Cutler drew a bases-loaded walk-off base on balls in the eleventh inning to give the Smokies a 5-4 victory over the Chattanooga Lookouts on Friday night in front of 5,493 fans at Smokies Stadium.


June 22 – Smokies Blank Lookouts 4-0, Clinch Series
Three Smokies pitchers combined to shut down Lookouts batters, while third baseman Christian Villanueva and first baseman Dustin Geiger each launched two-run homers to lead Tennessee to a 4-0 series-clinching shutout victory over Chattanooga on Sunday afternoon at Smokies Stadium.


June 29 – Rhee Carves Biscuits In 6-1 Victory
Tennessee starting pitcher Dae-Eun Rhee struck out a season-high ten batters in seven solid innings of one-run ball, while center fielder Jae-Hoon Ha broke open a one-run lead with a bases-clearing double in the second-to-last frame to give the Smokies a 6-1 series opening victory over the Montgomery Biscuits on Sunday evening at Smokies Stadium.


July 1 – Smokies’ Comeback Stuns Biscuits 6-5
The Smokies came back from a two-run deficit with a three-run bottom of the eighth, while shortstop Elliot Soto and third baseman Jonathan Mota each recorded three hits and right fielder Kevin Brown drove in two runs to give Tennessee a 6-5 come-from-behind victory over the Montgomery Biscuits on Tuesday night at Smokies Stadium.


July 2 – Johnson Stellar In Smokies’ 7-0 Shutout Win
Smokies starting pitcher Pierce Johnson was masterful in his return to Tennessee, yielding a lone hit in 7.1 scoreless innings of work and retiring 20 of 23 batters faced, and got plenty of support from a five-run second frame as part of a 7-0 shutout win over the Montgomery Biscuits on Wednesday evening at Smokies stadium.


July 10 – Suns Silence Smokies’ Rally In 6-5 Victory
Smokies right fielder Jorge Soler homered in his third consecutive start and joined shortstop Addison Russell, as well as first baseman Dustin Geiger in recording a two-hit night while the Suns rallied late and held on as Jacksonville toppled Tennessee 6-5 in a series-opening victory on Thursday evening at Smokies Stadium.

July 11 – Smokies Slide Past M-Braves 3-2

Suns right-handed starting pitcher Robert Morey fired six shutout innings, with support from relievers Casey McCarthy and Nick Wittgren, while outfielder Joe Benson drove in both Jacksonville runs with a two-run double in the sixth to power the club to a 2-0 victory over the Tennessee Smokies on Saturday evening at Smokies Stadium.


July 13 – Soler Smashes Smokies Over Suns 14-8
Tennessee right fielder Jorge Soler blasted two homers and drove in a career-high five runs as part of a three-hit game, while second baseman Stephen Bruno collected three hits and drove in three RBI as part of the Smokies’ 14-8 slugfest victory over the Jacksonville Suns on Sunday afternoon at Smokies Stadium.


July 13 – Jorge Soler Smashes Two Home Runs at Smokies Park
Tennessee right fielder Jorge Soler blasted two homers and drove in a career-high five runs as part of a three-hit game, while second baseman Stephen Bruno collected three hits and drove in three RBI as part of the Smokies’ 14-8 slugfest victory over the Jacksonville Suns on Sunday afternoon at Smokies Stadium.


July 21 – Smokies’ Comeback Thwarted In 4-3 Defeat
Mississippi starting pitcher Jason Hursh shut down Tennessee batters with six shutout frames while inducing three double plays and second baseman Jose Peraza tallied three hits and three steals, while Smokies center fielder Jae-Hoon Ha’s ninth-inning three-run homer was too little too late in the Braves’ 4-3 victory on Monday evening at Smokies Stadium.


July 23 – Tennessee Topples M-Braves 6-3
Tennessee second baseman Stephen Bruno and third baseman Christian Villanueva each recorded two hits, drove in two runs, and played a key part in the Smokies’ three-run sixth inning that allowed them to pull away and top the Mississippi Braves 6-3 on Wednesday evening at Smokies Stadium.


July 24 – Johnson’s Gem Propels Smokies To 4-2 Win
Smokies starting pitcher Pierce Johnson spun six scoreless innings and relinquished only two hits while tying a single-game season-high with eight strikeouts and was supported by a three-run sixth frame as Tennessee clinched the series with a 4-2 victory over the Mississippi Braves on Thursday evening at Smokies Stadium.


Tennessee Smokies – Top Plays from July 24
The Smokies defense turned in four outstanding plays in their 4-2 win on July 24th against the Mississippi Braves. Starting pitcher Pierce Johnson made a game ending catch on a liner back to the mound in the sixth to seal his victorious outing. Center fielder Albert Almora ended the seventh with a diving catch in shallow center against pinch hitter Rich Poythress. In the eighth, third baseman Christian Villanueva made a leaping catch to end a Braves rally and to preserve the Smokies lead. Then in the ninth, shortstop Addison Russell made an incredible back-handed grab for the inning’s second out.


July 31 – Smokies Comeback Thwarted In 6-4 Loss
Blue Wahoos starter Ben Lively faced the minimum through seven innings and took a no-hitter into the eighth inning, while catcher Ross Perez drove in four runs as Pensacola held off a late Smokies comeback attempt to top Tennessee 6-4 in front of a crowd of 5,068 on Thursday evening at Smokies Stadium.


August 1 – Smokies Walk Off With 2-1 Ten-Inning Win
Smokies starting pitcher Corey Black fired six strong innings and three relievers combined for the final four shutout frames, while shortstop Addison Russell homered and third baseman Christian Villanueva delivered the clutch walk-off RBI single to give Tennessee a 2-1 ten-inning walk-off win over the Pensacola Blue Wahoos on Friday evening at Smokies Stadium.


August 2 – Duran Blasts Wahoos Past Smokies 2-1
Pensacola right fielder Juan Duran blasted a tie-breaking solo home run in the seventh, while Blue Wahoos relievers Fabian Williamson and Shane Dyer combined for the last three perfect innings in support of starting pitcher Jon Moscot in their 2-1 victory over the Tennessee Smokies on Saturday night at Smokies Stadium.


August 3 – Johnson Outduels Stephenson, Wahoos 4-1
Smokies right-hander Pierce Johnson took a no-hitter into the sixth and retired all but one of the first 18 batters faced to outduel top Reds prospect and Pensacola starter Robert Stephenson, while Tennessee shortstop Addison Russell smashed a two-run homer to beat the Blue Wahoos 4-1 on Sunday afternoon at Smokies Stadium.


August 4 – Davis Drives Smokies To 3-2 Win, First Place
Tennessee catcher Taylor Davis reached base four times, recording three hits and three RBI while falling a triple shy of the cycle, as four Smokies relievers combined to yield just two hits over the last four innings in a 3-2 series-ending victory over the Pensacola Blue Wahoos on Monday night at Smokies Stadium.


August 12 – Stars Shoot Past Smokies 5-2, Tied For 1st
Huntsville starter Drew Gagnon fired seven quality innings, yielding just two runs and fanning five, while the Stars plated five unanswered runs including two from second baseman Nick Shaw to top the Tennessee Smokies 5-2 and move into a three-way tie for first place in the North Division standings on Tuesday night at Smokies Stadium.


August 13 – Almora Walks Off Smokies To 6-5 Win
Smokies outfielder Albert Almora smashed the game-winning pinch hit run-scoring double into the left-center field gap in the ninth after Huntsville’s four-run sixth inning evened the contest in the sixth to give Tennessee a 6-5 walk-off victory over the Stars on Wednesday evening at Smokies Stadium.


August 14 – Smokies Walk Off For 2nd Straight Night 1-0
With the bases loaded and no outs in the bottom of the ninth, Smokies first baseman Dustin Geiger lined the game-winning single to center following starting pitcher C.J. Edwards’ six shutout innings in Tennessee’s 1-0 walk-off shutout victory over the Huntsville Stars on Thursday evening at Smokies Stadium.


August 15 – Smokies Shut Out Stars 2-0, Remain In 1st
Smokies starting pitcher Pierce Johnson blanked Huntsville over four innings to extend his scoreless innings streak to 19.0 frames, while relievers Matt Loosen, Andrew McKirahan and Frank Batista combined to shut out the Stars 2-0 and keep Tennessee in first place in front of 6,556 fans on Friday night at Smokies Stadium.

Greg Young brings five years of Minor League Baseball experience to the Smokies Radio Network, having previously served with the High-A Modesto Nuts of the California League. He began with the Nuts as a Broadcast Assistant in 2007 before being promoted as the team's new Director of Broadcasting the following year, a position he held through the 2011 campaign. During his time with Modesto, Young also worked at KESP AM-790 as a Sports Anchor. Over the years he has worked as a broadcaster for Comcast Hometown Network and their coverage of the San Jose Giants (High-A, California League) and Fresno Grizzlies (Triple-A, Pacific Coast League), in addition to high school football and basketball. Young began his broadcasting career with the Major Indoor Soccer League's California Cougars in 2006 and was the club's inaugural broadcaster before being promoted to Director of Media Relations and Broadcasting the next year. Young is a 2005 graduate of Sacramento State University, earning a Communications degree with an emphasis in Digital Media. During his senior year, Young was Sports Director for the university's student-run radio radio station KSSU, and also did play-by-play for the school's baseball, football and basketball teams while attending Sacramento State.
