The rain may have played a factor in last night’s contest between the Smokies and Generals, but it went Tennessee’s way as their bats put up six runs to beat Jackson 6-2. The two teams will square off for an early game today at the expected start time of 1:05 p.m. ET.
Tennessee’s bats exploded yesterday thanks in part to Christian Villanueva who went 3-for-4 with two RBIs. Stephen Bruno played a huge role on the offense scoring three runs and driving in one of his own. Dae-Eun Rhee pitched 5.2 innings last night earning the win.
Tennessee is expected to start RHP Matt Loosen (3-2, 5.04) who is making his second start against the Generals this season. In that outing on May 11, Loosen gave up 10 earned runs in 4.2 innings pitched during the wild 17-13 affair the Smokies won. Loosen has pitched well in his last two starts giving up four earned runs in 10 innings while striking out 10.
Jackson will look to counter with RHP Stephen Landazuri (3-2, 3.77) who will making his second start against Tennessee on the year. In that outing he allowed only one hit in six innings while striking out nine earning him the win.
