Yesterday, two former Smokies were in the spotlight at Target Field in Minneapolis for the 2014 Futures game. Javier Baez, who played shortstop for Tennessee last season, and Kris Bryant, who played third base earlier this year, were able to showcase their talent on a big stage. Bryant represented Team USA and started at third base, but he did not record a hit as he went 0-for-3 with two strikeouts.

The story of the game was Javier Baez, representing Team World (Puerto Rico) who crushed a home run to right-center field in the top of the sixth inning taking a 2-1 lead in the contest. Team USA would come up victorious 3-2, but it meant more than a win or loss. Everybody got a chance to see the talent that is coming up through the Cubs organization and fans know what their capabilities are now.

Below is a video of Baez’s home run
